UCT-owned computers are installed with Trellix Endpoint Security. This article provides a Quick Reference User guide for Endpoint users.

Access the client

  • Windows users: Search the Start menu for Trellix Endpoint Security.
  • Mac OS X users: From Launchpad, open the Trellix Endpoint Security shortcut on your Mac.

You can also right-click the Trellix icon in the system tray to access various features - such as checking the security status or opening the client.

Run a full or quick scan

  1. In the Trellix Endpoint Security client, click Scan System.
  2. Select the type of scan you want to run:
    • A Full Scan performs a thorough check of all areas of your system. This is recommended if you suspect your computer is infected.
    • A Quick Scan runs a quick check of the areas of your system most susceptible to infection.
  3. If any threats are found, choose whether to Clean or Delete the infected file(s) and then Close the scan.

Set a scheduled scan

  1. In the Trellix Endpoint Security client, click Settings > Common > Tasks.
  2. Schedule your scans.

Scan a file or folder on demand

  1. Find the file or folder you want to scan, then right-click it and select Scan for threats.
  2. If any threats are found, choose whether to Clean or Delete the infected file(s) and then Close the scan.

Using the Web Control features

Web Control notifies you about threats while you search or browse websites. A Trellix team analyses each website and assigns a color-coded safety rating based on test results. The colour indicates the level of safety for the site. The software uses the test results to notify you about web-based threats that you might encounter.

  • On search results pages: An icon appears next to each site listed. The colour of the icon indicates the safety rating for the site. You can access more information with the icons.
  • In the browser window: A button appears in the browser. The colour of the button indicates the safety rating for the site. You can access more information by clicking the button. The button also notifies you when communication problems occur and provides quick access to tests that help identify common issues.
  • In safety reports: Details show how the safety rating was calculated based on types of threats detected, test results, and other data.

Enable web control

After installing Trellix Endpoint Security, you will be prompted to enable the Web Control add-ons within your Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox web browser(s), as well as Safari (for Mac). To protect your computer, we highly recommend that you enable these add-ons.

Types of warnings

When you browse to websites, Web Control uses a colour-coded label to inform you how safe the website is. The label appears in the top section of your browser.

  • Red: The site is blocked as it poses a high security risk.
  • Yellow: The site may be dangerous. You are advised to use caution on the site.
  • Green: The site is safe.
  • Grey: Trellix has not yet tested the site, and cannot advise on its safety.

Update threat definitions

Endpoint runs virus update tasks automatically. By default, you don't need to configure any of these tasks, unless you want to schedule a specific task.

However, if you would like to manually update your protection at any point, open the Endpoint Security client and click Update Now.
